| Suzanne Vega – Songs in Red and Gray Lyrics
| 5 years ago
|
This song always seems to me about and one night stand that she had with a married man. Many years later, the man's wife died and Suzanne goes to the wife's wake to pay her respects.
Suzanne feels as if the man's daughter can see through her & knows Suzanne was one of many women with whom her father had a one night stand while married. (Hence, "I feel that she peeled back my guilty disguise")
Red is Suzanne
Gray is the man with whom she had the affair
Song is their history |

| Suzanne Vega – In Liverpool Lyrics

I saw Suzanne at Joe's pub in New York City around 2002 and she explained the meaning of this song. She said this is about a boy that she met in musical summer camp that was from Liverpool. After many years she was visiting Liverpool when she heard the bells ringing in the belfry. She wondered where the boy was and hence the song was born. It is not about John Lennon as someone had previously interpreted. This is exactly as she told the story in New York City |

| Dar Williams – If I Wrote You Lyrics

The first time she says "you will not write me again,' I hear sadness and loss. Then for the second time I hear it as angry and authoritative . By the 3rd time and last time it sounds like acceptance. I feel like she is going through the stages of grief. |
