| @[delia17601:22523] why do you feel sad for all dads? I in no way suggested that all fathers are molesters or abusers or anything. It was simply an interpretation that made sense in my mind in relation with the lyrics and overall sad and pleading tone of the song. | |

This song is about a guy that is stalking a girl. Whenever San Cisco play it at a concert they say, "this song is about stalking" before they play awkward. The actual definition of stalking is, however, unwanted and insistent contact, not following, so it makes perfect sense :) |

This is really different from what everyone else has been saying but the line, "My father, my father, he liked me" seems... well, to me it seems like she may have been a victim of sexual abuse of some sort. That's really out there, I know, but that line doesn't add up for me. The mother holding her could be her only comfort, and she feels distant growing up from everyone else, because she lives a very different life. |

| @[TheB:5270] I do like this interpretation, too. I like the sort of mystic thought. | |

For me, it's not about love, but about insanity. I have always thought as the two voices belonging to the same person; just different sides of the conscience. "Looking for a place to start," sounds like one side is trying to recover from mental illness. To me, the male voice sounds like the sinister thoughts that are trying to lure the person to insanity. The "soft walls" are used figuratively as the padded walls of an asylum. Just how I think of it, though! My absolute favourite song :) |
