| The Strokes – Ask Me Anything Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| I think the title of the song contributes a lot to the meaning. It says 'ask me anything'. The person is lost, they have nothing to say, they want things (to read, the lead) but they can't somehow. They can't speak. Maybe it's indecisivness or maybe it's anxiety. The person just wants people to ask them questions, they are so shy that that is the only way they will do the things they want to do. | |

People are saying it's about the fight between the band but I think it's about war. I mean, he explicitly sings "I'm joining the army" and then he's asking someone to wait for him. And I think the lyrics are: And I'm tired of all your friends Enlisting at your door And I won't, I better call you Also Julian pretends he's shooting a gun in the music video. Then "And they sacrifice their lives In their land of all closed eyes" is pretty explicit aswell. |

| The Strokes – Welcome To Japan Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
If we don't watch the sun It will rise the person is becoming aware that the world doesn't revolve around them but he has a band, the way Julian sings "we're playing come by" shows that the band thinks they are good I didn't want to notice Didn't know the gun was loaded Didn't really know this What kind of asshole drives a Lotus? this part is kind of absurd. it sounds like an excuse but you end up seeing the real intentions when they say "What kind of asshole drives a Lotus?" Come here and go get with me I wanna see you Wednesday Come on, come on, come over Take it off your shoulder Come on and pull me over We gotta get to work now Sliding it off your shoulder As we're falling over This is someone trying to "save" them. That person wants to take the guy's chip off his shoulder. "Sliding it off your shoulder" "Take it off your shoulder" Oh, welcome to Japan! Scuba-dancing! Touchdown! by the entonation of casablancas and the random words said we can guess it alludes to the band that thinks they are so cool like japan I guess. You did it alone You did it for fun You did it for everyone who's on the run You're not just a friend You'll be born again We'll be in this race until the very end He lives on the phone He cheats on his clone You'll never believe me 'til you're on your own this is another voice telling the main guy why he pulled the trigger I never understood the "I'll be there" |

In the first part of the song he highlights the absurdity in the world. Then he tells you to be wiser and forgive their ignorence, because if you snap they are waiting at your door. You are looking for someone to say what's on your mind, but your thoughts are ahead of your dimension (or generation). You should speak your mind is the message. Then he keeps giving advice. Be wise but drop your guard, speak your mind and don't be shy. "That is how it once was done All the dreamers on the run" This means to me that in the past, the dreamers that had different ideas were persecuted and to not let yourself get discouraged by people not accepting your dreams. Finally Julians says to believe in this world, to not let yourself get depressed by the ignorence, and to have a plan if you're going to be leading the way. |

| Julian Casablancas – Little Girl Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
Julian seems to be debunking beliefs, the first one being that confident people are always smart. Then he rejects the idea that people will magically evolve when they hit a certain age: The seven and the avalanche you're life will show up The little girl in this song might be a metaphore to someone that thinks is wiser because of their age: "showing them what life is all about" and he calls her a "little girl" to highligh the fact that she never grew up. I think Julian might be singing about himself on the last part. He's the one that seems "smart" but "If you think I know a little more bit Than the average person on the streets you are incorrect Because I'm ignorant as shit, not here to preach, man". He doesn't want to be praised or thought as a genious for his music: "I'm just a simple guy who talks when You put a microphone in front of him" Then, when Julian repeats "Running" at the beginning of the last verses he's saying that we're always running for what seem to be different reasons, but are all the same and lead you to the same place. Then Julian keeps on debunking the beliefs. The perception of what's cool ("It sounded kind of cool over the phone It killed your neighbors and their dog and crushed their bones") and the perception of succes ("The worlds always amazed at how much cash you made But not at how you made it, it's just strange") Basically the song talks about perception. What seems so smart, so confident, so cool, so succesfull, so experienced is not. "actually they're lost in the dark". |

| Regina Spektor – Düsseldorf Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I think it's just her saying things that she's thinking at the moment. The piano sounds as if she was walking through different countrys and she describes what she experiences/sees. | |
| Regina Spektor – Eet Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I think this song is about someone forgetting how it feels to be a kid, or just forgetting how to be: "You can't remember You try to feel the beat" | |
