| Harry Nilsson – Coconut Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| Being an ofttimes expatriate (in Colombia), aging hippie type the song also has some strange parallels to a business that nearly wiped out two countries. Cocoa is not active by itself and to manufacture cocaine requires the addition of lime turns it into a euphoric drug. This is the form the indians use in South America, they simply chew the cocoa leaves and lick a stick with powdered lime on it. The so-called 'pure' street cocaine contains many other added chemicals, none of which belong in your body. So they literally put the lime in the cocoa... The belly ache could also be a vague reference to how the stuff was carried to the USA in the belly of 'mules' or drug couriers, who would swallow balloons stuffed with the drug along with copious amounts of charcoal to combat the belly ache. So yeah, it could be just a fun song, or it could carry a hidden second meaning as did many songs of that era. Oh and if you ever get that belly ache? Call the doctor because it's over and someone will need to get a body bag. | |
| Jefferson Starship – Ride The Tiger Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
This song is about shooting heroin, in the dead of night, looking wild eyed and expectantly for the high that is to come. The tears refer to crocodile tears, a cheap artificial type of the drug. 'Krocodile tears,' is a homemade version of heroin made of gasoline and codeine, ' salt, carbon and water .' In the east the pure heroin in use is euphoric, a high of highs, loving or about sharing the love. The tiger is the syringe with it's black stripes. Sing to the sky. The double meaning is making love to a person of Asian decent, preferably high, to ride the tiger and sing to the sky. Had to comment, been there done that... |
