Gary Stewart – Cactus and a Rose Lyrics 8 years ago
He’s sitting at home contemplating his love for a woman, knowing that it just won’t work out. When that old itch of love kicks in, he’ll go after it and it won’t work out, just like how people are telling him.

In the end, there are things he’ll always go back to – his beer, the honky tonk he enjoys going to. There’s something to be said about those down-to-earth women who will accept a dance. The high society women who refuse a dance, so what if they turn their nose up at you?

He’s trapped into a way of life that just causes him grief, and he just can’t give it up.

There are times that you’re caught on the fence, and sometimes, it just makes more sense to fall and see where you land because it’s difficult to choose a side of the fence. Either way you go, you’re not going to win, so just fall where you will.

The cactus and the rose are so different that whatever love there may be, it just won’t work out, and it’s hard.

I've always loved this song. One of my favorites by Gary.
