| The Verve – Weeping Willow Lyrics | 3 months ago |

The way I read it it’s about living with depression. “It’s in our hands/from 6 to 10/ and slipped right out again” hits hard. One of my favorite Verve songs. |

It has dual meaning depending upon the listener. But let’s be clear, it’s not about Winona Ryder. |

It has dual meanings depending on the listener. One: it’s about a girl and her pet. Or Two: it’s about Winona Ryder and her wooha. |

| Primus – Arnie Lyrics | 9 months ago |

When I was a kid I used to watch Looney Tunes and remember seeing Daffy Duck don a devil costume, grab a gas can to douse himself, and strike a match in front of an audience to the applause of everyone in attendance (Bugs Bunny included). To me this is a real life take on that. It’s about someone who literally kills themself for fame. “Remember this day.” |

| Dinosaur Jr. – Thumb Lyrics | 1 year ago |
|
I personally believe the live version of this song is better than the studio album version. As for the song, to me it’s about depression. “There never really is a good time. And there’s always nothing much to say. Pretty good, not doing that fine, getting up most every day.” When you’re depressed you tend to stay in bed. This is coming from someone who battles depression daily. It’s constant, you don’t want to deal with the outside world. So when someone asks you how you’re doing it’s usually a go to just to say “Pretty good.” “Stepping out I tried to fix it, pull the thumb out of that hole, give me ingredients I’ll mix it. How can you move without a goal?” Basically it’s dealing with the everyday or whatever problems you have to face. “An excuse is all you’re in for. The abuse is all you crave. Sure you know just what is in store. Wait and see if I behave.” Sounds like a message to the person who put you through hell and left you depressed. But overall wants you to get over it and deal. That’s just my opinion. Let me know if yours differs. |

| Hole – 20 Years In The Dakota Lyrics | 2 years ago |
|
One of my favorite Hole songs. I don’t know why it was never on a record. Maybe it’s the Hey Jude reference. As far as the meaning, Courtney is comparing himself with Yoko Ono and imagines herself living in her husbands shadow. Pretty straightforward if you read it. |

| Hole – Old Age Lyrics | 3 years ago |
|
The song is a husband and wife collaboration. Kurt wrote the music but, the lyrics are all Courtney. For those who don’t think Courtney could write good lyrics go listen to Drown Soda or 20 years in the Dakota. She’s a very gifted wordsmith and lyricist. As far as the song goes, I think she put a lot of herself in the lyrics, “what was she for Halloween? The ugliest girl you ever seen.” I think it’s how she saw herself in other peoples eyes. As if she wasn’t worth being where she is or even who she’s with. A lot of the lyrics kinda centers around being a spins-tress and imagining that’s your future. It even goes so far as to list some feminists heroes of hers. It’s a very good collaboration. |

The power of an upright in his GD hand. He’s talking about an upright vacuum cleaner. |

| Beastie Boys – Song For The Man Lyrics | 3 years ago |
|
The song is about guy’s being obnoxious to women. Kinda like a construction guy whistling at the beautiful lady passing by as if she would turn around and acknowledge him. I think the fact that Adam Horovitz is married to Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill has a lot to do with why this was included on the album. |

| Foo Fighters – Exhausted Lyrics | 3 years ago |
|
@[gosto28:43172] — I don’t think you’re comment was stupid at all. I remember listening to this band called P with Johnny Depp and Gibby Haynes, and I can’t help but reminisce about River Phoenix. The band was on stage playing the song ‘Michael Stipe’ while River was outside overdoing. It’s just a weird feeling like they were just here. So yes, this song feels like that moment etched in time of the loss of Kurt that if any of us could change we would. |

| Foo Fighters – Exhausted Lyrics | 3 years ago |
|
My favorite Foo Fighters song and a great way to end an album. I always thought it was about the seemingly endless touring schedule and that feeling of “If we quit now then what?” It’s also a take on life. Where would you be and where would you go if the ‘day had stayed in bed’? It’s a great song. |

| Alice in Chains – Would? Lyrics | 3 years ago |
|
The song is about Andrew Wood and that feeling of loss. It’s about how people pass judgment on someone without really knowing the person they’re judging. The line, “If I would, could you?” could be taken in a lot of ways. If I would forgive you, could you forgive me? If I would show you compassion, could you do the same for me? It’s such a poignant line in the song. |

| The Flaming Lips – Felt Good to Burn Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| Felt Good to Burn is a saying of someone coming to a conclusive breaking point in a relationship where it feels better to burn away the memories then to be reminded of it. Like “burning bridges” and not looking back. I don’t know if the Lips were talking about some weird relationship they had that went sour but, that’s how I usually used the phrase. | |
| Nirvana – Swap Meet Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| There is a million of people like this who blow through town in an RV with this Hippie aesthetic of living life off the grid. I grew up in Oregon just a hundred miles south of Aberdeen. You go to the coast, or rest stops, whatever. And you would see these guys trying to make ends meet by selling art, rocks, sea shells, or whatever. I think the love/ hate relationship he talks about was alluding to his mother and father. It’s tacked on but, still poignant . The song is pretty self explanatory: | |

| Nirvana – Paper Cuts Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| From what I heard it was about a family who kept their kids locked in their basement. They weren’t allowed to go out, eating only scraps, and having only newspaper’s to go to the bathroom on. I think Kurt had read it and thought it would make for a messed up song. | |
| Metallica – The Unforgiven Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| It’s like John Lennon’s Working Class Hero.\n“There\'s room at the top they are telling you still\nBut first you must learn how to smile as you kill\nIf you want to be like the folks on the hill.”\n It basically speak to the certain aspect of life that people strive towards mirrored success but fall short. Trying to live up to everyone else’s expectations only to fall short or for it to be unattainable. | |
| Gary Wright – Dreamweaver Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| I’m listening to the metal version of this right now. Crowbar is full of surprises. | |
| Tool – Flood Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| For me it’s about betrayal. Seeing someone one way, the way you want to see them, only to have that washed away. When you see the person exposed and lies.\nThe realization of “I was wrong. This changes everything” is a strong statement. What do you do when everything you believe gets exposed? When the person you love so dear turns out to be something you hate? You want to run from them. | |
| Temple of the Dog – Wooden Jesus Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| When ever I hear this I think of my mother watching a televangelist trying to get money by promising salvation. In a well lit room with religious figurines adorned in it. This is probably not even 1% about heroine and all about a false sense of salvation. I remember going to see Benny Hin one time and watching the crowd as people who needed a healing came with this hope and faith that they will be healed by this man who claimed he could. All of them left the same way they came in. No one got healed and it made me wonder how long they waited for a blessing that would never come? This song is truly powerful to point out that you can't buy your way into heaven. It's by faith in God and it starts with you. | |
