I believe this song is about the person in question having a romance with a woman who's in a relationship.
I feel like the reference to the moon is because they are having to spend time at night, in secret really. Also the fact he feels nearly weightless around this woman as she obviously makes him very happy. Also the moon is arguably the only place where they could be together as it would be away from the people on this world, where there's no complications.
Some may say he's wishing his life away as he's waiting for these moments with this girl where he has to be in secret and not live his life as happily as he should.
