| Blink-182 – Adam's Song Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
This song is very straight forward to anyone going through depression, having suicidal thoughts, self harming, etc. But the real meaning is usually unknown to a lot of people. It was made in memory of Adam Krieger, who committed suicide in his high school years. It's quite a sad letter, if you wanna read it the link will be at the bottom. "I never thought I'd die alone I laughed the loudest who'd have known? I traced the cord back to the wall No wonder it was never plugged in at all" - The cord was a reference to Tom's experience of (when Blink used to practice in a garage) his amp in a puddle of water, and if plugged in, would've killed him. "I took my time, I hurried up The choice was mine I didn't think enough I'm too depressed to go on You'll be sorry when I'm gone" - Everyone knows the Nirvana reference in the first two lines. The rest is referring to when the person actually commits suicide, everyone will be upset for their disappearance. "I never conquered, rarely came 16 just held such better days Days when I still felt alive We couldn't wait to get outside" - The first line is a reference to Julius Caesar's famous quote. The second line was hinting at Adam Krieger and how he passed around age 17, and being 16 was so much easier. The days where he still felt alive actually meant Adam feeling alive. "The world was wide, too late to try The tour was over we'd survived I couldn't wait till I got home To pass the time in my room alone" - The tour was referring to the 1997 Warped Tour in which Blink was in and it lasted around 9 months. Mark wrote the lyrics about himself and how Tom and Travis both had girlfriends at the time while Mark was single. When the tour ended he had no one to go home to but himself. The last lines original lyric was 'to get off the plane alone'. "I never thought I'd die alone Another six months I'll be unknown Give all my things to all my friends You'll never step foot in my room again" - Back to Krieger, when he passed he was alone, and thought it would only take 6 months for him to be forgotten completely. In the letter he said that he only had one good friend, Marty. And never expected anyone to go in his room again once it was empty. "You'll close it off, board it up Remember the time that I spilled the cup Of apple juice in the hall Please tell mom this is not her fault" - Parents and family members will think going into the room of Adam will be unbearable, so he thinks they'll just never go in again. But the apple juice in the hall is like a stain (or any kind of reminder) that their was someone who was there that made mistakes and they can never be forgotten. "I never conquered, rarely came 16 just held such better days Days when I still felt alive We couldn't wait to get outside The world was wide, too late to try The tour was over we'd survived I couldn't wait till I got home To pass the time in my room alone I never conquered, rarely came Tomorrow holds such better days Days when I can still feel alive When I can't wait to get outside The world is wide, the time goes by The tour is over, I've survived I can't wait till I get home To pass the time in my room alone" - Scroll up to see previous explanations. It's pretty self explanatory. But I'll still say what I think it means. This song is talking about how this person has been in their previous relationships and how they want to change it for the better all because of someone important came into their life and they wanna make the best of the moments they share by being different this time. |
