I think the basic message is "who are you, and why don't you love me?" Someone said it's not bitter. "Which will you take now, if you won't take me?" sounds very bitter to me, especially the way he says it. The line I absolutely love in this is "Which do you dance for? Which makes you shine?" I've always interpreted that as "which archetypal role do you play?" Like some people are naturally suited to playing the 'trickster' role, for example. He's asking what sort of person this girl is, in some hope of understanding why she has rejected him. Also "Which will you choose from, from the stars above?" : Stars are associated with fate. He's asking what path she will choose. She hasn't taken the path that leads to him. |
