| Say Anything – The Writhing South Lyrics | 10 years ago |

fuck. I love say anything. I wish I was a fan when this came out though. I personally interpreted this as him and a girl. (Sorry for dumbing it down to that... I realize most of his lovey stuff is on In Defense Of"` but anyway... Searching for blood in the salty sea The sun beating down On the chest in back of me Looking for drugs in a southern town I've got this red right hand That points me south The puke green clouds Just spat me out Into the hot, hot lands I landed with no shoes [He's at a foreign party. Looking for drugs. It's kind of like ugly, obscene ways to describe what parties have become. Searching for blood, he's looking for a girl. someone to see. clouds could be smoke clouds. Imagery.] i hear "hey, come pollinate me" [he could be seeing the girl he wishes to hook up with, talk to, etc. She's calling to him. pollinate....] across the room, i hope to watch you writhe again soon [watching her "call" to him makes him laugh. he wants to watch her WANT him] they've got the army of ears they can't hear you now [there's a lot of people here, but they're not paying attention to us] i got the piss in my veins and these furrowed brows [describing his current state. He's gotta piss and has a look on his face, is it now or never??] you've got this one last chance to burn me, turn me down [maybe he's approached this person before and she's turned him down.,?] if not, i've got these last 12 bucks to spend on you [he accepts the rejection and still offers to be with whomever] you can take me anywhere your sick mind wants to use yourself to fuel me using you [restating that he needs the company of whomever. They're his fuel] |

| An ironic look into the irresponsible life of a teenager. That's how I see this song. | |

I feel like I'm the only person with this song interpretation. And it's the ONLY way I can see this song. It's about someone who is committing suicide. "Happiness hit her like a train on a track. Coming towards her, stuck still no turning back" - This is them literally committing attempting suicide by getting hit by a train; and their happiness was when they were hit. There's no turning back is how a lot of people with depression feel. "She hid around corners and she hid under beds She killed it with kisses and from it she fled With every bubble she sank with a drink And washed it away down the kitchen sink" - The person is hiding or suppressing whatever depression/sadness is making them feel like dying. 'with every bubble she sank with a drink' - they're losing the battle with this....etc. "The dog days are over The dog days are done The horses are coming so you better run" - I'd interpret personally as the easy part is over. And something is coming after you. "Run fast for your mother run fast for your father Run for your children for your sisters and brothers Leave all your love and your longing behind you Can't carry it with you if you want to survive" - This goes back to the horses part. Why they are running. She's running AWAY from them. Their mother, father, sister and brother is her "love" and "longing". It's somehow been messed up and dragged the person down somehow. They need to run away to survive. The rest is pretty explanatory if you think of it that way... |
