Here is a direct quote from Jon Anderson about the meaning of the song: "We were driving down from Aberdeen to Glasgow, down through the valleys. There were all of these clouds around, and you couldn’t see the mountains. They seemed to come right out of the sky as we were going down to the roundabouts. That’s where that lyric came from. Within 24 hours we would be back in London, so that was the next line. If you listen to the solo, it sounds very Scottish, too. It was really one of those very fun songs." I mostly agree with your interpretation of this song. I definitely agree that it has a Satanic message. It is well known that Jimmy Page was interested in the occult. He lived in an estate which had been owned by Aleister Crowley and had been used by him for occult ceremonies. Also, the song "Houses of the Holy" contains the lyrics "From the door comes Satan's daughter....Will you heed the master's call Oh...Satan and man". It has been claimed that if you play Stairway to Heaven backward, it contains Satanic messages. Some people dismiss that claim, but the lyrics played forward also seem to have Satanic implications ("the piper is calling you to join him"), and the lyrics also suggest that there is a hidden message in the song. For example "You know sometimes words have two meanings" (one meaning when played forward and another meaning when played backward), and "And if you listen very hard, the tune will come to you at last" (you need to listen to the song very carefully to understand its meaning). |

| Madonna – Secret Lyrics

The song is about learning how to experience orgasm through masturbating. Note that she said "Happiness lies in your own HAND." She didn't say HANDS, which is the how the saying normally goes. She was referring to using one hand to masturbate. When she says "Something's comin' over, mmm mmm" she is referring to having an orgasm (which is commonly referred to as "coming"). When she says "Until I learned to love myself I was never ever lovin' anybody else", she is saying that she had to learn to orgasm by herself through masturbation before she could have an orgasm with anyone else. Presumably, her baby is someone whose secret was that they masturbated, and that person taught her to masturbate. When she says "happiness", she says it like "haa-PENIS", so maybe her baby is a man. |
