| In looks like Bono is still trying to find a meaning for something... We saw this in "I Still Havent Found What I'm Looking For", "Ordinary Love" and now in Every Breaking Wave. He's saying that everyone knows the obvious, this kinda of relationship won't take them to nothing, so, maybe if they leave each other, they can stop chasing every breaking wave (stop chasing something that's in vicious cicle and won't lead to nowhere or nothing). | |

In my opinion, he's trying to sing about someone whose opinions are manipulated by someone or something bigger ("behave yourself"), . He's also trying to get out of this situation and says what he thinks (spitting out what others are putting into his mouth, cutting his tongue so someone can say what they want in his place, but he can thinks like he wants to). The part of having fantasies with the hospital/army/asylum/prison is really interesting. A good fantasy because in these places you're kinda left alone just with your thoughts or maybe it's a fear, because in these places you can kinda get controlled by someone. |
