| 48 cash was released in 1973.This songs origin has it's reference to a 1972 'Crash' in the UK that had garnered national attention the previous year in Eltham Well Hall. The 'rail crash' was caused by an intoxicated 33 year old conductor who was travelling at approximately 65 mph around a deadly curve usually taken at about 20 mph. His life was over in an instance (a lightning flash) as the engine and ten coaches flew from the rails killing five passengers and injuring another 126, many seriously. The locomotive was a British Rail 'Class 47' but many believed it at the time to be one of the new 'Class 48' which had a greater amount of power and top speeds nearing 95 mph. | |
