Spoon – Inside Out Lyrics 6 years ago
@[teddsterpinx:31985] I wonder if it's not an outright rejection of faith (Christianity, or at least it's values), but more the rejection of the "holy rollers". Theres "intense gravity" drawing him there, but then they wash my feet and it doesnt matter...THEY dont make me complete. "It's only you I need. They (Holy Rollers) do not make me complete".

Just because I'm not a holy roller, doesnt mean I dont have faith.

Cold War Kids – Hospital Beds Lyrics 9 years ago
I hear it a couple of ways. First, a straightforward take on an aspect of war that is often forgotten. The experience of the soldiers there, in the hospital. "Vietnam fishing trip and Italian Opera" are the selling points of the U.S. military. But the reality for many is this experience in a hospital.

I could also see though, a metaphorical experience that we all go through. We are all sucked into situations and have a reality to deal with in the aftermath.

Modest Mouse – Tiny Cities Made of Ashes Lyrics 10 years ago
@[mblydude:4296] Also, almost sounds like he's talking about the point a lot of people reach when the idea of accepting God (even if not wholly convinced) is on the table. Last line of the song about the spa and molasses. Baptism?

Modest Mouse – Tiny Cities Made of Ashes Lyrics 10 years ago
On this album, I feel a strong questioning/wondering about God and what that means and what is our control of it.
"Does anybody know a way that a body can get a way?"

If the world ends as cities of ashes-due to God OR our control (human impact on Earth)-we're just doing it without a thought...just drinkin a coca cola.

But we all face it (heart pumps dust and our hairs all gray)
