Snoop Dogg – I'm Ya Dogg Lyrics 23 days ago
(part 2)

Then the song kicks into something more personal and invasive, using violent imagery to make its point. "I'd like to peel your skin off so I can see what you really think" - The narrator doesn't trust the other person's words or behavior, and has become obsessed. He wants evidence, convinced the truth is buried.
"Or if there is anything under that cone of shame" - This raises the question of whether the other person has any depth at all. The cone becomes a mask that hides emptiness.
"I'd like to strip the bone off so I can see how you're really made" - When skin isn't enough, he wants the skeletal structure. In metaphor, this means he wants to understand their core motives, not their outward behavior or polite face.
"And see how you really take your special pleasure" - Elsewhere, this would suggest sexual curiosity. Here, it's about control and power. He wants access to their private side, to see if they enjoy torturing him.
"I'd like to pull your wings off" - Classic image of someone plucking an insect’s wings to see how it reacts. Curiosity mixed with cruelty.
"Read your lines like a gypsy" - Like a palm reader, he examines the other person, trying to divine their inner motives.
"Just as lonely as anything / So infinite" - The first conclusion from this "reading". The other person is as isolated, incomplete, or emotionally barren as he feels. The loneliness feels vast, overwhelming, and permanent.

And finally, "Cone of shame comin' right off / You're only happy when you're pissing me off / I'm only happy when I'm pissing you off".
That couplet about sums it up, doesn't it? The relationship is not just violent in one direction. Both people feed off conflict, the only spark left, the only thing they still share. It also explains the earlier imagery. The peeling, stripping, and prying are exaggerated ways of saying, "We only feel alive when hurting each other or forcing reactions."

Hell of a post break-up song for someone who's endured a toxic relationship without much closure. It captures the fascination, resentment, and obsession that linger after someone toxic is gone. It's not about reconciliation, but about processing the anger, the curiosity about what was really going on, and the realization that both parties fed into the cycle.

Faith No More – Cone of Shame Lyrics 23 days ago
(part 1)

"Cone of Shame" is a character study, a familiar Faith No More approach. This one is about two people who bring out the worst in each other. The lyrics use physical mutilation as a way to talk about emotional exposure, resentment, and the urge to pry into a partner's hidden motives. The violence is symbolic, showing how raw it feels to seek truth from someone distant.

"I'd like to peel the skin off this winter day / I'd like to burn the hair off this summer fling" - The narrator wants to strip away everything superficial. Skin and hair are thin layers. "Winter day" and "summer fling" point to larger experiences/memories over time. He believes the surface lies and wants to explore beneath it.

"What love can do when love's lost / Grow overweight" - This is bitterness building up. "Overweight" could metaphorically mean emotional mass that keeps accumulating because nothing has been resolved. Or literally, people often let themselves go once a partnership becomes unhappy but complacent. Flaws also become more noticeable than in the honeymoon phase.

"And smile as if there's nothing left to say / Wear the cone of shame" - The cone signals injury and restraint. Something has gone wrong, and someone is walking around with a visible mark, while maintaining a smile. In a relationship context, the cone is whatever humiliation, guilt, or resentment either person carries after things sour.

"Town is quiet now, like it's holding its breath" - This feels like the aftermath of a falling out or fight. It’s the tense quiet after an incident, not a peaceful one.
"Stone marks the spot / You know who you are"- Feels like blame to me. A gravestone or memorial fits the mood. A relationship can leave the same kind of mark when it dies.
"They outlined it in chalk" - Evocative image of a crime scene. Something ended violently, whether physically or emotionally.
"Word to the wise" - A cautionary line to anyone listening, as if to say, "If you're smart, take notice of what's happened to me so it doesn't happen to you."
"And the barman calls time" - Closing time in a bar or pub, where folks often go to drown their sorrows. The world winds down while he stays stuck in the fallout. The night is over, the incident is over, and now there's a forced pause. Everyone has to leave, but he's still picking at the wound. Life moves on, but he hasn't.

"I stay up late to hear your voice" is slightly echoed in R.E.M.'s "At My Most Beautiful" on the _Up_ album, with the lyric "I save your messages just to hear your voice." Both songs are intimate and gorgeous meditations on presence, attentiveness, and emotional investment. The difference is "Untitled" is universal and familial, while "At My Most Beautiful" is decidedly romantic.

I love the idea of this song functioning as a comforting memento, or even a protective talisman for the listener, and a reminder to spread warmth, light, comfort, and strength to those you love, even when you're not near them, and encouraging them to do the same (This light is here to keep you warm / This song is here to keep you strong... Hold him/her and keep him/her strong / While I'm away from here).

It started off as a cool way to end the Green album, but this song became an infectious earworm for me pretty quickly, and not the bad kind. It stuck to my brain and will likely never leave. This many years later, it's one of my favorite songs from R.E.M.'s impressive body of work.

@[Separator94:53532] Not British. Not on TikTok. Haven't been on Reddit in ages. Didn't call you any names. Simply stated facts about Fox News and The Daily Mail, which you conveniently ignored. You're really batting zero today.

Odd that you're peddling this nonsense *on a Radiohead song meaning page*. Evidently, you're unaware, or willfully ignorant, of their politics and worldview. To quote another Radiohead song, "You have not been paying attention."

I'm leaving this conversation right here. Your asinine takes and comments can sit here in perpetuity. Have fun shouting at clouds.

Here's the excellent comment above, reformatted for readability, removing slashes and correcting a couple of minor typos:

In the UK there is an immensely popular tabloid newspaper called the Daily Mail - it also publishes in the US and Australia I believe, but is owned by News International, based in London. It is regularly criticised and sued for aggressive breaches of privacy, inaccuracy and lies, although these are also the reason this rag is as popular as it is.

As well as being a promoter of rumours and pop culture it is also known for pushing racism and bigotry. It legitimises stupidity and ignorance by putting it in print nationally.

"Where's the truth what's the use"
In 2005 an investigation began into News Corp International (News of the World and the Daily Mail) which found that journalists had been hacking into the voicemails of celebrities, members of the Royal Family, and dead and missing children, and family members of dead members of the armed forces, as attempts to get info for news stories. As well as a breach of privacy, it also complicated the police's ability to track missing children (messages were listened to and deleted after they had disappeared).

"No regard for human life"
News Corp journos were proven to have committed this crime and an apology was published in their papers.

"You made a pig's ear, you made a mistake"
The enquiry also investigated bribes paid to police to obtain non-public information.

"Paid off security and got through the gate"
Although Rupert Murdoch (majority owner), Rebekah Brooks and her husband (CEO) and dozens of others were required to explain themselves to Parliament, arrested, or had their homes raided, I don't know if any of them were ever found guilty of anything. Rebekah Brooks and her husband were even caught hiding evidence (laptops, phones, etc) and I believe they got away with it.

"You got away with it but we lie in wait, eh"
This song is about a parasitic corporation that will publish anything to incite a strong response from readers, whether it's racist, untruthful, or just ignorant. This paper was following the Donald Trump playbook when Trump was still just a reality TV host. They operate with little regard for the law or decency and when necessary they just pay fines and continue doing what they've always done.

It's a song about pure evil operating unchecked and above the law with an unnatural disregard for humanity and decency. The Daily Mail.

@[yourgottisttod:53530] Can you elaborate on this idea? What is this song saying in response to "Brain Damage"? Most of us already know the lyrics to "Brain Damage". What else do you have? This is an intriguing idea.

@[Separator94:53529] Ah yes, Fox News, the network that has literally admitted in court that they lie to their viewers. The same network that had to pay *nearly a billion dollars* for knowingly spreading election fraud lies. If that’s your gold standard for truth, no wonder you’re out here ranting about imaginary Marxist takeovers. Meanwhile, the UK, for all its issues, isn’t drowning in mass shootings, forced birth laws, and a political party that actively tries to dismantle democracy. But sure, keep telling yourself the U.S. is "paradise." Delusion is a hell of a drug.

Radiohead – The Daily Mail Lyrics 9 months ago
I hear the lyrics differently during the climax of the song, compared to those listed above. Here's what I've got. **Bold text denotes a change.**

Where′s the truth? What's the use
In hanging around, lost and found
**With your head in the sand**
Fat chance, no plan
No regard for human life
**You keep time with no rhyme**
**Fast and loose, win or lose**
Jump the queue, go back again
President for life
Lord of all that flies in the sky
The beasts of the earth
The fish in the sea
You've lost command...

The combination of the loud music plus Thom Yorke's tendency to mumble makes it tricky to discern, but this is what I gathered from listening to the song carefully ad infinitum and watching the *From the Basement* video of its recording.

For what it's worth, listening to this again in 2025, I can't help but think of the Trump regime in the US.
"Win or lose, jump the queue" = Rigging the election
"No plan, no regard for human life" = Self-explanatory. All about himself.
"You keep time with no rhyme, fast and loose" = Makes me think of the nonsense logorrhea that comes out of his mouth and his inability to create a lucid, complete sentence, yet he always jumps at any chance he can to speak, even if he doesn't make any fucking sense or isn't answering a direct question.
"President for life, lord of all..." = He wishes, and he's said as much publicly.
"You've lost command" = He's not really the one in charge. He's a puppet for Putin.

[Removes foil hat.]

Having a malleable meaning that changes with the times and is open to interpretation like this is one of the song's many strengths. It's amazing, especially for being recorded live, and it's one of their best songs, full stop.

Jane's Addiction – Three Days Lyrics 2 years ago
From https://janesaddiction.org/songs/janes-addiction/three-days/

The poem from the beginning is transcribed as follows:

At this moment
you should be with us
feeling like we do
like you love to
but never will again
I miss you my dear Xiola

I prepared the room tonight
with Christmas lights
a city of candles
fresh sheets
we are all filled with dense clouds
that have us sunk into the mattress
I need to touch your skin…

an alien she was…

No one made friends as easily as Xiola…

Drug pushing constructors
We were always in the audience that plagued her.
One night I met a poet…

(I'd always thought it was "One night I met a boy", but upon a closer listen on good headphones, I can definitely hear "poet.")

Music and lyrics by Jeff Moss

This universally-themed song can be applied to any painful parting, be it a friend, family member, or loved one, due to a parting of ways or even due to a death. Its simplicity allows for the listener to interpret as desired.

On a personal note, this song is among the all-time great tearjerkers for me.

Fanny – Borrowed Time Lyrics 5 years ago
Feels like a well-earned tongue lashing and calling to task from lyricist Nickey Barclay of male chauvinists (in the rock industry?) who do nothing but use and abuse, then get bored and repeat the cycle. She sees them as man-children who have tricked others, but whose flame is about to go out / bubble is about to burst / "borrowed time has run out." She sees through their bullshit and calls them out on it. Fanny's website says that Nickey doesn't suffer fools lightly, and I believe it. It helps that all four of the band members bring their own brand of ass-kicking intensity to the table. This is Fanny in finest form. Nice callback to "Cat Fever" from their previous album, Charity Ball, as well.

Hard to believe that this song was written nearly 5 decades before the #TimesUp movement, and was performed by a group that did not think of themselves as feminists (at least at the time). Listening with modern ears tells a different tale, from where I sit.

Cinderella – Winds of Change Lyrics 7 years ago
The lyrics are mostly self explanatory. It deals with memories (evidently both positive and painful) of the past, changes taking place in the present, and a hopeful outlook on the future. It's kind of divine in its simplicity and sincerity, and the song is absolutely beautiful and affirming, in spite of the cold, in spite of the bite.
