I think that this song is honestly about a guy in a coma who is fighting for his life. And everyone else already has proved me wrong with their same interpretation on every post, but this is what I thought when I first heard this song. I think that the girl is all alone in her time of need because her lover could be gone and never come back. He's in a coma because of a near fatal crash during a race which brings in the racing aspect of this song and he's trying with all of his might to break free and wake up to see his lover, but as the song states, days pass and he's in the coma for longer and longer until his lover can wait no longer and finally pulls the plug and tries to forget their love and tragic ending, while "in his head he's still making the grade" which I think means that is his eternal damnation, never to wake up or return to his lover |
