| Awolnation – Not Your Fault Lyrics | 10 years ago |

Everyone is saying it's about the singer, which it sort of is, but he is the perfectly sane one in the relationship and the focus of the song is the girl and her "quirks". She was built with a brain And some swagger. A little scream, little cry, Little laughter. The girl is certainly special and the guy has very strong feelings for her, but she's very shy, timid and reserved to the point of it being mental. This love up down. Please believe. He is doing everything in his power to make her love him and realize that everything is going to be ok without coming on too strong. Oh, it's not that you should care. I just wanted you to know. He is trying to get her to open up to the world more and be more trusting of it's inhabitants. Baby, it a wonderful news. It's not your fault I feel like I could go on, but I gotta get back to work now :) |

| The Killers – All These Things That I've Done Lyrics | 10 years ago |

What struck me as what Brandon might have meant with this song, happened somewhere around listening and singing along to it for the 100th or so time. I am a second son, the first son is the son that goes to war (a mission), the second son is the one who stay home and looks after the parents affairs. This is a very old tradition but one that still made sense to me and was somewhat ingrained in my upbringing. My brother left to join the military the first chance he had, I remained living with my father until 21, then never moved far as to be able to assist him in his degenerating health. But most importantly, my Mother couldn't bear the idea of me joining the military which left me feeling like I couldn't follow in my brothers footsteps as much as I looked up to him and wanted to be like him, I had to make my own way. I believe this song is from Brandon to his mother, saying basically, "I'm sorry I wasn't the first son, the one that is born in to stars and stripes (missionaries) and that will make something of my self for my country because that is what is expected of me. Brandon is in fact a 2nd son and the youngest of six siblings (4 sisters). When there's nowhere else to run Is there room for one more son One more son If you can hold on If you can hold on, hold on He is essentially asking his Mother in her older age, after raising 6 kids, to hold so that she can see her 2nd son's achievements and experience his love when he's at his happiest and most accomplished in his life. Maybe The Killers knew ahead of time how big this would make them and therefore this song fulfilled his wish. Maybe they didn't know this would be a Magnum Opus of sorts and he was still talking of future successes to hold on to. I think if you listen to the song with this state of mind, everything starts to make sense, he just needs a little bit more time and love and encouragement from his Mother to do the things he loves and he will find happiness and his Mother will too through that. I could go on, but I ask you the reader/listener, to listen to the song one more time with this in mind. Please feel free to reply back if you like this idea! |
