| @[lydgate:4005] I think the reason people think it's marijuana is because of the Jane in Mary Jane. But otherwise I see no connection. | |
| Bob Dylan – Queen Jane Approximately Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
I'm not too sure who he is referring to as Queen Jane, but anyways, here is my interpretation: Queen Jane is lonely, and Dylan is saying "come here, I will keep you company" Lyric breakdown: "When your mother sends back all your invitations" Her mother wants nothing to do with her. She invited her to certain events, but now does not want her to go after all "Now when all of the flower ladies want back what they have lent you. And the smell of their roses does not remain" People who have helped her out decided to stop helping her, and want nothing to do with her "Now when all the clowns that you have commissioned have died in battle or in vain. And you're sick of all this repetition" This means that she felt blindsided by all of this rejection. Clowns are supposed to be funny, but instead, they died in a violent, and unexpected way. And she's sick of the repetition. She is constantly losing her friends and she is always alone. "When all of your advisers heave their plastic at your feet to convince you of your pain" Advisers are supposed to be on your side, but for Queen Jane, they are not on her side, and they brag/ rub things in her face. In this case, they are bragging that they have more money than she does (plastic may be referring to credit cards). "Now when all of the bandits that you turned your other cheek to all lay down their bandanas and complain. And you want somebody you don't have to speak to" Even though she is nice to people, they still want nothing to do with her. |

| The Beatles – Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| @[whofreak777:4002] Saying that the Beatles sold albums because of their voice and looks is a little bit out there. They sold albums because they were able to make catchy tunes like "She Loves You", "I Want to Hold Your Hand", "Please Please Me", "Love Me Do", "All My Loving", etc. The reason their career skyrocketed afterwards is because they decided to move away from the cute love songs, to songs where people actually had to sit down and try figure out what the hell the song was about. For example, "I Want to Hold Your Hand" is pretty straight forward. But then you have songs like "Happiness is a Warm Gun". Is the song about an ad that Lennon saw from a gun shop? Is it about heroin? Is it about sex? Etc. They made good music when they started, and they made even greater music at the end. | |
| Sean Lennon – Dead Meat Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
I think Sean wrote this song about Mark David Chapman, the man that murdered his father. "I'll close my eyes and count to ten and then I'll come find you" This lyric shows how much he loved his father and wanted Chapman to pay for his actions. But he was only five years old at the time of his father's death, so he did not have a firm understanding of the situation. "I'll close my eyes and count to ten" is referring to his young age, because closing your eyes and counting to ten is often associated with the children's game "hide and seek". |

| The Beatles – Doctor Robert Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
Back story: The Beatles were supposedly introduced to LSD in the mid 60s when their dentist put a dose of it in their coffee. A dentist's title is Doctor (last name), hence Dr. Robert. Lyric breakdown: "If you're down, he'll pick you up" is referring to LSD's tendency to cause euphoria. "Take a drink from his special cup" is a reference to the coffee in which the dentist placed the LSD. "You're a new and better man" is referring to the after-effects that some people experience from an LSD trip; some people report that LSD changed their life for the better, and that they are a completely new person. "He helps you to understand": LSD often gives people positive insight and a deep understanding of things that otherwise leave them dumbfounded. "You'll pay money just to see yourself with Doctor Robert": not paying for a visit to his dental office, but paying for his LSD. |

"My mother was of the sky. My father was of the earth. I am of the universe". "My mother was of the sky": his mother is deceased, in heaven "My father was of the earth": his father was alive, and roaming the earth "I am of the universe": John Lennon was a household name. Everybody knew Lennon/ the Beatles. |
