This song is in my top ten tracks ever written.
To me this song is about a relationship which is both extreme love and hate, a self destructive infatuation between two people. I believe it's written in a chronological order. The infant mjk describes is the nievity of love and the notion that love is a fairy tale and choking the infant is the reliasation or reality that love is sometimes and in this case cruel and destructive. It's also about a power struggle hence the reference to a fault line or weak point which he describes as forcing through or hitting to gain control. He describes being so infatuated that he is losing his own identity and losing himself. The gap he describes is a way out but he's so infatuated and weakened by this relationship he can't see any other way out other than killing the other person! Such an insightful, complex and powerful track. This of course is the nutshell version of my interpretation. I could analyse and debate every line of the song but don't want to complicate my comment. |
