Am I a bit late in the discussion...? I think that this song, with the knowledge that it was written because Issac's brother was asked to leave, and all that "she's on your mind" etc, kept jumping between the two perspectives of Issac's and his brother's. "With 8 seconds left in overtime; She's on your mind" is from Issac, who -- I guess -- made his brother leave because he was still thinking about his relationship even when in some crucial moment and made something go wrong, causing his exile. "I never knew. I never knew that everything was falling through. That everyone I knew was waiting on a cue. To turn and run, when all I needed was the truth." is from his brother's perspective after they decided to kick him out. "When all I needed was the truth" reveals that he didn't know what he'd done wrong, and simply needed them to tell him. "To turn and run" meant that they decided to flee from him. Either way, it's a sad but touching song, and I love this, melody, lyrics, and all. |
