JANE'S ADDICTION Frontman PERRY FARRELL - "'Mountain Song' Was Actually About Drugs" June 18, 2020 "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets." https://bravewords.com/news/jane-s-addiction-frontman-perry-farrell-mountain-song-was-actually-about-drugs |

| Dax Riggs – Didn't Know Yet What I'd Know When I Was Bleedin' Lyrics | 5 years ago |
| Like a lot of Dax Riggs songs this is about drugs, more than likely heroine. I thought for a moment it could be about getting murdered, another one of Dax Riggs themes. A few verses makes me lean more toward a cycle of shooting up... The puppet, vortex, bending, religious implications. Also never learning from the cycle of doing this, like saying "I wish I would learn to quit this" also the reference "when I was fallin" so the cycle has taken you down a fallin' path. OR it could reference the falling sensation getting high and maybe regretting said cycle of abuse during the high. Regret is what it all boils down to I think. | |
| Acid Bath – Graveflower Lyrics | 6 years ago |
|
The song is about being a serial killer. Many of the verses refer to it... just an empty cold reflection on killing a girl, there is no after life, no kingdom come, just vast empty darkness, there are no consequences in the after life for his act and nothing in the after life for the victim. She screams now because she knows she can not talk him out of killing her. He grows bored now and tired of her sad today. He has her locked away yet as he walks around in his daily routine the thought of killing her follows him around. So to do it he disassociates himself from her, saying he looked through her head and found nothing redeeming to stop him from killing her, she is just an object. Thing with Dax Riggs songs MANY are about murder, serial killing, etc. Reason Acid Bath used Gacy's art as a cover and Kevorkian's art on second album. He is really into death, murder, the minds of serial killers etc. This song is another example of murdering someone. |

| Mushroomhead – Solitaire Unraveling Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I would also like to add, I believe a lot of Mushroomhead's music is about the fall of religion and humanity. We have to be strong in ourselves and push our way through this world. Darkness can't destroy my drive! Fan for life! | |

This is my first post about any song I have read on here. I felt I needed to add my interpretation on it. I have studied and listened to Mushroomhead for a long time now, way before they built their empire on their own terms. Praises to them for that in this industry. One last thing, I do accept criticism and trolls make me laugh. I have listened to this song at least once a week for too long to count. My interpretation has always been a religious one. Striping the song down, and ambiguous to the video. I will be jumping around a few verses, but stay with me. The part where the song says: "Passing it off, Like some kind of king, You don't know peace till you've had suffering.(I've suffered!)" The song is talking about the King of Jews, "passing it off, like some kind of king." There is no Jesus? thus no God? Scoffing, "you don't know peace till you've had suffering." Most Jews and Gentiles alike believe that you suffer to become closer to God. Look at Mother Teresa with her hospital in India. She said herself you suffer to become closer to God and to enlighten those around you and she's a saint!? Then he screams I've SUFFERED! He's mocking Christ, "I've suffer!", Job questioning God why he has had to suffer? We all question that in times of tremendous pain. This part: "Condemed Man (Condemed!) Convicted Man (Convicted!)" Jesus was both a condemned man and convicted by the Jews. But he was ultimately just a man. "Could not save my life" Jesus being nailed to the cross can not save the writers life. Now jumping to: "Time ticks away these last few moments, is there anything left unsaid?" Death and repentance is what this is referring to. Are you gonna die and confess a "man" is there "anything left unsaid?" He's asking for atonement for sins. Confession. The writer already states he is looking for atonement. "I'm on a quest for atonement I've got to find peace of mind And a place to rest" Atonement for his . A peace of mind knowing where he will go after he dies? That could be said... This first verse is what kicks the whole song off: "Locked away in a cage My rage has got the best of me Time finds a way each day Of leaving less of me behind I find this fight must be won Inside my mind So uptight and confined Often blinded by the light" Right there he is having an inner turmoil, maybe over the existence of a God, the Bible is really uptight and confined. So he's often blinded by the light. I think this whole opening is all about finding God. The new masterpiece that is mentioned multiple times is the Bible. Have you looked at it and read it? Can you believe in God after reading it? Ultimately we all grow old and die alone, "solitaire unraveling." |
