| Sondre Lerche – Things You Call Fate Lyrics | 10 years ago |

I honeslty have no idea if this is true or if I'm just being dumb, but some songs of sondre lerche get me thinking he had a distant relationship with someone. this song is one of them (along with goodnight, for example, and others). It seems he was in this relationship and it was a long-distance thing but, for reasons that are not explicit, they are thinking about breaking up and he is finding hard to let go of her, but at the same time he knows the relationship has nothing more to offer, it only goes this far. what is heartbreaking is that they didn't get the time together he wanted, they didn't live together or anything like it, and because the whole situation is difficult they are deciding to break up: they haven't been together by now and they can't cope with the situation anymore ("our problems are I have no bags to pack..." and "I know we havent been together now") They forgot this major detail when things were easier: that, at some point in the relationship, they would get "this far" and now that they got there and saw they can't handle they have to break up. But now they won't forget, it will be harder to learn, but the only thing he can do to make it all easy is to accept is over and believe that this is how is has to be , believe in "the things you call fate" |

the way I always thought about it, the song is about growing up, getting old (or time in some ways) and becoming more and more disappointed with other people, or with life in general. It's about losing that naivety where you just "live and let live" and, because bad things happened to you, you become some sort of angry, rancorous person and you expect the people who hurt you suffer the same way you did and/or feel even worse as in "you gotta give the other fella hell". It also may be about some sort of revenge, as he says that giving the other fella hell is a kind of job, of purpose to his life. But besides all of that, I never thought of this song as so violent haha it's just that feeling you get when someone hurts you: that person who hurts me could just *die* They used this song in a scene in American Hustle, where jennifer lawrence is cleaning up the house while listening to it. we can see that she's angry and the song is a perfect match for that moment didn't like that much the movie tho |
