This is one of my favourite songs, but while I think it's about love, it's not just about romantic (though obviously this does feature. I think it's also about friendship, about finding a group of people you feel at 'home' with, and this is shown by the video - showing a group of people all sharing in each other's joy, and reminiscing - and by the staging when it's performed. Look at how they're all standing together in Stop Making Sense - in a line, singing together, like a group of friends. I'd also say I think that idea of reminiscing is seen in the title - it's a 'Naive Melody' because it's people looking back on where they were, how they've grown up together. Whatever it's really about, though, this song just has this immense warmth to it - it just leaves me feeling contented whenever I hear it. |
