Jason Isbell – Songs That She Sang In The Shower Lyrics 9 years ago
@[HiddenMusic:8601] I originally took the church bell line the same way you did, but now I'm thinking I like the way @[lemmy999:8602] put it.

Such a a great songwriter

@[SingSongSam:8600] The walking around means when he wasn't up in the ICU. In other words when he could get up and walk around. That is when we has a tough state trooper pulling over women.

Jason Isbell – Go It Alone Lyrics 10 years ago
I've always taken this as a song written about his time right after departing from the Truckers. By all accounts he was in a bad place when they split and struggling with addiction. I hear it as him talking to his former band: "Are you out on the road", "Are you dreaming out loud", etc and while they are doing that he is headed home to go it alone again.

In real life these things don't happen much at all.
Too bad we all live the dream.
I'm realizing just how far I had to fall
and taking it home to go it alone again.

He now knows how good it was and how much losing it hurts. His only choice now is going home to go it alone again.

Who knows maybe I'm crazy and way off, but that is how I hear it.

@[zcullens:3471] I agree with your interpretation, or at least that is how I hear it too. Actually going back and listening to many of his pre sobriety songs I hear them that way. Not sure if that is just me projecting knowing his past or if their were many little calls for help along the way.
Either way great song and great artist.
