| This song is absolutely incredible. I like what's here already but I wanted to add thoughts on "And all I can think of is the way I'm the one who charmed the one who gave up on you". I think this is Patrick's agony coming out. Pete was the one who gave up on himself and all Patrick can think about is how he was supossed to be his best friend and he feels like he failed. I also want to mention what an amazing friendship they have that Pete can write a song for Patrick and do it so damn well. Patrick has said that this song feels like a confessional for him. Gah, amazing. This song is a work of art | |

This song is at least partially about religion. "We're all fighting frowning old in the hopes of a few minutes more" means everyone is afraid of death. "So get, get on St. Peter's list" so joint a religion and get right with God "but you need to lower your standards, cause it's never getting any better than this" there is no paradise when we die, this is all we get, so stop wasting it looking forward to nothing. Lower your standards so you can enjoy the short life you have They also have the imagery of a little white church in the middle of the desert getting burned. I personally think Courtney's verses are about religion as well. The blonde in the song could be a metaphor for religion: she uses love as a weapon, gets in people's hearts, pulls the pin and starts things like war, terrorism and other acts of violence. Courtney's 1st and 3rd verses talk about the acts from an outside perspective: she's angry about it. Patrick's verses might be talking about the effects of religion on a personal level. At first he's talking about the deception too, calling it a bad poem or off key anthem. In his second verse he could either be talking about the way religion impacts people or the way religious people react to their religion being called out for its flaws. They don't want to hear it, "our guts can't be reworked". |

I take this song as being about two famous, larger than life people who've fallen for each other. This is suggested in the first verse. It's is also suggested that their love is very strong, unstoppable and chemical. The second verse is about the girl; she sleeps her way to the top. "Your crooked love is just a pyramid sceme". "And I'm dizzy on dreams" I think means that he's found out and can't stop thinking about it. "you think, think your only crime is that you got caught" means that she sees no problem using her sexuality to get ahead. This isn't wrong to her because the sex is meaningless. In her mind the only thing she did wrong was letting him find out about it and causing him pain. He disagrees, and thinks the cheating was the crime wether it meant anything to her or not. "It's getting clear you're never coming clean so lock you up inside and swallow, swallow the key" means that she won't stop going behind his back and he feels it's best if he just locks up his love for her on the inside and ends it for good. The rap is a desperate phone call to her about how he still loves her madly, but they've already fought and broken up. It leaves the song pretty open ended, not telling us wether or not he had the sense to stay away, or if his addiction to her was too strong. |
