I think that this song is about how deluded we are thinking that we are "free" when actually, it's the exact opposite. The "spies" are the people in power, the elite. The people who if they wanted to, can know everything about us, our details, where we live - with the click of a button. This has become even more relevant in recent times, with things like the introduction of the Apple fingerprint button (think of the millions of people who have given away their fingerprint identity!)The fact that we do not think outside the box and think that everything will sort itself out in the end is why we are "fugitives". Always running from the problems in the world, hoping that someday they will magically be sorted out. Our ways of life constantly being monitored by these "spies", and herded like sheep so that the elite stay in control. |
