i was surprised when i read so many comments saying that this song was about suicide because that didn't cross my mind. i thought this was a view on gun control or maybe the lack of it. the first lines describe a scene that in my opinion, shows an accident that involves a gun, so i imagined maybe it's about someone who had a gun and accidentally shot someone with it "and shows what you have done" "and you swear it to your parents that it will never happen again". due to that issue, the narrator is afraid of this gun situation, because he could also be a victim of an accident. i think he demonstrates that fear in "i'm trying to sleep but i can't when you all have guns for hands" and "that you all have guns and you never put the safety on" |

i really think about interpretations on b&s songs cause in a lot of them you can notice that there's something behind but in women's realm i don't see like there's A Meaning behind it.
ps i think the part where isobel? sings it would be better if sang by stuart. i know it's like an other person talking but idk i always think when stuart's not singing is such a waste |

when he says "if i could do just one near perfect thing i'd be happy" all he just wants to do is something that's perfect or almost that he'll be remembered for (they'd write it on my grave or when they scattered my ashes). but if he couldn't do that, he'd just like to be with the person he loves instead (on the second thoughts i'd rather hang around and be there w my best friend if she wants me). |

the song clearly talks about suicide and religion. anthony kills himself because of depression, (anthony walked to his death because he thought he'd never feel this way again) he wanted to feel something he couldn't (and if there is stg else beyond he isnt scared because its bound to be less boring than today) his life wouldn't get better, it would stay still and boring. hilary, in my interpretation, was feeling bad about life and herself, (she was into s&m and bible studies) which is contradictory, and if she was religious, she would feel that she couldn't be into s&m, it would be against what she believes in and she would need a "treatment", that's why she goes to the church to look for divine help, which she doesn't get, that's why she kills herself. i think the songs gives a message that sometimes people in suffer try to minimize it by their faith, but it just don't help them, but their faith creates an illusion that all they need is the church, so these people just keep suffering until they can't take it anymore and kill themselves. that's why sometimes religion just won't help if you're miserable |

i think it's about a girl who was in an abusive relationship and now does "promiscuous" things, she hooks up with another men making the ex jealous and kinda embarrased in front of other people (look at all your friends that she's gonna meet) but she doesn't hook up with anyone and takes crap (there's no tears in her eyes, she won't take it from just any guy) and it's like, she would take him back but she wouldn't subordinate to him (she'll never ask you please again) he'd have to reconquer her stg like that |
