This is going to be weird (and hopefully fun, for those reading this twisted version of the song). This, maybe, could be the worst interpretation: (I'm not a native english speaker. And also, I tend to take things literally easily.) So here is the horrible interpretation: This person can be a grand pa, or a mother or any person getting literally too old, or at least, old enough to face the reality of the possibility of dying alone and how that could be ugly and hard in the last years, due to health issues. So, now, he/she is asking someone, probably some son, nephew or younger friend or just somebody to please stay with him/her until the end and take care of him/her until death. And the "simple thing" is some strange way of calling this person. For me, all this sounded very instrumentalist, like someone with a real need putting a load on a very younger person. And then, calling this person "simple thing" for me sounds not too loving, but kind of trying, but not loving that person in reality. For me, this song was hateful and made me feel very bad, and sad. But, after reading the meanings all of you put, it makes more sense to me, because nobody would call somebody "thing" in their face and then ask them something as big as this. So, now I feel better about this song. :) |
