I think that this song is about a person trying to make another see how perfect for each other but the other person doesn't believe the same thing as evidenced by the first line, "How I wish you could see the potential, the potential of you and me." The protagonist believes that if they spend more time together that the person will relise how right they are for each other. "You gotta spend some time, love, you gotta spend some time with me." The other person simply rejects them, "You reject my advances and desperate pleas", but the protagonist won't give up on them, "I won't let you let me down so easily." |

After watching the music video for this song, I believe it is about two seperate personas of the same person, an immature, slightly psychotic childlike one and a rational and logical adult, that are fighting for different things. Part of this person, the childlike persona, wants to break free and let their imagination run wild but it is being held back by the other, the rational adult. Because the two appear to have a link, as evidenced by both being in the cage, one cannot go with out the other. Hence the fight for dominance between the two. However, reading the lyrics makes it seem like the two personas are in fact different people an this rational and level-headed one is keeping the childlike one from straying to far and no matter what they say, the other person won't be offended or take it personally. |
