| Conor Oberst – Eagle on a Pole Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| @[bpm5045:2993] I think you're completely right that the song is about a drug relapse. But I also think that there is more to it. If you listen to the first two songs on this album they're completely carefree, and sort of happy. Then comes "Danny Callahan." That song is obviously about a little boy dying. Then comes "Eagle on a Pole." My interpretation of this is that he (I'm not sure if it's Conor) was happy. Life was great. Then he hears Danny is sick so he send him a get-well card. Which is the next song. Then Danny dies. He has a relapse, and "Eagle on a Pole" is the next song. Then I think because his relapse, him and his significant other break up. Then to get away from it all he leaves. The two next songs are "NYC- Gone, Gone" and "Moab." I then think he kind of settles down. He becomes comfortable. The next song is "Souled Out." Which is similar to the first two songs- light-hearted. I then think he gets a phone call or something, that brings him back to reality. Cueing "Milk Thistle." THAT IS MY INTERPRETATION. | |
