As a person who suffers from mental illness, this song speaks to me on a personal level. I think she's saying she's not perfect, no one is, but that she was upfront and doesn't hide her imperfections. She is who she is. He said he accepted her with those flaws and then he backed out and said he didn't know what he was getting into. She says I secretly think you did. Meaning he knew and he's using it as an excuse. Her begging for thread is her asking what was the real reason he left. She wants to know the truth. I think this song is kind of calling him out. He loved the good times but couldn't handle the bad and used her behavior as an excuse and the song is a personal "F-You" the to him.
By far one of the most amazing songs I've ever heard. |

This song to me, isn't about himself. It's about society. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" to me is the figurative meaning of the "American Dream." We all want the perfect home with the white picket fence and 2.5 kids. The song is about the fact that when you get to that "perfect" point in your life, it's not all it's cracked up to be. We all have this idea of what our perfect lives would be, this song is saying, once you get there, it's not all you thought it would be. |
