I'm pretty sure this song is about a blow up doll he named Stella. Any reference to a book could have been inspiration that Paul turned into his own thing because he is highly intelligent and an amazing lyricist. I love old footage of them playing this live and how Paul does it just totally straight faced and serious, I find it quite hilarious and entertaining. |

Listening to all Emily Haines/Metric music it seems to me that Emily does all of her own back up singing. There is an occasional effort by Jimmy Shaw but not in this song. I think it's all Emily :) By the way, I think Emily is a lyrical and musical genius. |
