Counting Crows – Hanginaround Lyrics 8 years ago
Itfeelslike41inhere gave a very nice analysis! It's a definite possibility that the song is about drug addiction. Another explanation that I always assumed was that "something so good" and "getting sober" is referring to alcohol. An additional definition for "the blue light" is drinking during working hours, or the daytime. In the context of that part of the song, it could just mean he's tempted to keep drinking despite the hangover. I feel that the chains that are holding the person back are psychological. He's stuck in a sort of depression, and can't figure out how to get up and move on with his life. This would explain the alcoholism, as it is a method to temporarily escape the reality of his situation.

The music video can provide some help into the interpretation too. In the video, it shows Adam moving slowly and staying still while he doesn't notice the world moving and changing around him. It indicates how he feels, like being stuck and unable to change. This is why he's hangin' around on the corner, because he can escape his situation.

Matchbox Twenty – All I Need Lyrics 9 years ago
People live for love, but despite your best efforts, you may be let down. There is always someone out there who might use you or hurt you, but not everyone is that way. Things in life go wrong, and sometimes you just need someone to help you along, whether physically or emotionally. Even when you feel alone or without anyone to turn to, the song tells us that we are not alone.

However, there is another interpretation, in which the world brings you down, and there is no one who can help you. While sacrificing long-term happiness, you turn to something or someone you know can bring pleasure or comfort for the time being. But the future doesn't really matter unless you live for the moment. Either way you take it, it's a pretty powerful song.

Scott Stapp – Dying to Live Lyrics 9 years ago
Like many other of his songs, Scott talks about how his past has been ruinous and he's taken some major stumbles. Instead of trying to live his life quietly letting his mistakes slide under the rug, he wants to accept what he did and gain back what he's lost.

Being a Christian, he found much hope in going to church, hence "stain glass windows" and expressing his love for God. Personally I'm not religious, but I know that faith can be a strong motivator in changing lives. When Scott had reached the ultimate low point of his life ("What I thought was all of my life story"), he confided in the one place he found holy, and became spiritually redeemed.

Now with better intentions and a new way of life, Scott decides to make up now all the time he lost in the past when he made mistakes. He now finds hope and is trying to regain control of his future by generating closure with his family, friends, and within himself.

Of course, turning your life around may seem daunting, but for Scott he is more anxious than anything. In essence, he is "dying to live".

This song not only applies to the scenario Scott was in, but also for anyone else who is trying to atone for their past. Everyone makes mistakes, but we must all accept the fact that they were made, and use our lives wisely to cover anything we may have missed in our stumbles. It may be difficult at times and be utterly depressing, the perspective gained from surviving your own version of hell is worth the pain. And remember, no matter the situation, there is always hope.
