@[JesusSaves:18229] interesting theory. Very thoughtful. The only problem is that some of events and statements you are trying to connect happened over a decade before Stanley's final days. The song was written in 1991. |

@[tinamarief55:18228] don't believe everything you read even commentary from the author. If you were a famous lead singer in the throes of a terrible downward spiral of addiction and withdrawal would you publically admit that you wrote a song about your addiction? It's so obvious this song has everything to do with addiction it's silly to think it's anything else. Read the lyrics again. Torture, despair, insanity. A twisted soul. That's what I get from it. |

Instead of going into a long diatribe about the lyrics I will keep it simple because to me it's obvious: he wrote this song while he was trying to kick his drug habit for the 4999th time (sarc). Listen to the mood of the song as well. He is going through withdrawl symptoms badly.Trying to kick heroin is HELL. The pain, physically/emotionally, the hallucinations, depression, self-loathing, praying to God for help to stop the craving, stop the pain, remove these visions from my head, the hallucinations from my eyes, the inner demons trying to pull you back in (deny your maker). Need convincing? Watch the scene from "Trainspotting" where Ewan MacGregor's character is trying to kick heroin cold turkey and play "Man In The Box" in the background and you'll get it. The pain, the agony, the hallucination of the dead baby crawling on the ceiling over him.
The songs lyrics are the ramblings of a tortured junkie desperately trying to get through withdrawal and trying not to give into the craving to get another fix. Nothing much deeper than that. |
