Yeah, I'd say all the commenters are right. This song is simply about driving and/or screwing... likely both. But the guitar... just some of the smoothest, coolest rifts ever. Vastly under-rated. Same goes for Felder's "All Of You". Those two, along with Hagar's "Heavy Metal" are the best parts of the album "Heavy Metal: The Soundtrack." |

I've really enjoyed this song, despite it not being my normal kind of "thing". Reading through the various theories on the meaning of the song, I think one option has been missed: This is a song about a person who wants to be miserable. They don't feel that they deserve to be treated well, and think they are "happiest" when abused. The REAL question is whether the songwriter is writing about themselves (and thus whether or not they're representing this behavior as good or bad) or it's about people who are like this, in which case it's definitely communicating it as a bad thing. I lean slightly towards the opinion that the songwriter IS talking about herself, but is perhaps talking about how she USED to be... or doesn't want to be anymore. Basically, saying that this is a bad thing. The 2nd verse in particular shows this type of thinking to be unhealthy in the writer's view. ...imho |
