NOFX – She Didn't Lose Her Baby Lyrics 10 years ago
A dark topic no other genre and maybe only a few other punk bands would tackle in such grittiness: How the state deals with kids from broken homes and what effect that has for the parents. The song rides the dangerous line of coming off as critical of child services for taking care of the kid, but I think the message is something else. The focus on the mother rather than the child puts blame on the system for neglecting the mother though caring for the child. The mother might have failed in supporting her child, but the system, while rightfully caring for the kid ("...he had [a] look of relief..."), not only fails to support the mother, but also takes away the only thing worth living for ("She couldn't find a reason to fight...").

I am sure Mike only wanted to highlight the situation, but if the song is meant to concretely criticize the system, too, it could also be read as a plea for a more holistic system of child and family care. A treat-the-root-of-the-problem-rather-than-the-symptoms kind of argument. I am probably going too far with this one though...
