I interpret this song as being about lovers who have gone separate ways. The woman he is singing about has gone off to live her own life for awhile and make the most of herself while he is not necessarily living his life out, but mostly waiting for her to be ready for him again. It seems as though he's trying to serenade her back to him with fond memories of their past and hopes for the future, yet he's uncertain if it's still a possibility that she will come back to him after living her own life. Would she "fall" back down to where he is from how "far she's flown," or has he merely been yearning for a past that will never become the present. |

I can definitely see how it could be about the music industry, but another interpretation, I see it being about people judging a person. Their "song" represent's the person's self as a whole and at the end even goes to say it is their soul. They want to escape the criticism and judgement of everyone and at the end they adopt more of an optimistic mindset that although they can't fit in or escape judgement they will get through it. |

I think this song is about a breakup that the singer felt needed to happen. The one that was broken up with is sort of resentful about it, but he still cares about her even though he knew the relationship couldn't work. He still wants to know how she is doing and tries to find out from others since he cannot communicate with because of her resentment. He also still wonders if he is ever on her mind still. Sometimes I think being the one to initiate the breakup is harder. Even though you know you can't be with that person anymore it's so hard to erase them from your life and not be able to talk to them anymore. The toughest part, I think, is imagining if they still think of you (do you ever think of me in the quiet, in the crowd?), or if they were already able to get over you and let you slip from their mind. |
