I can see why people think its about the Angel of Death and i did too until i read the lyrics again. I think its a guardian angel who has to earn his wings but can't. I get this impression from "I'm trying to earn a set of feathery wings to take me away from here" as we see guardian angels as having to "earn" their wings. How i see it, the angel fell from heaven, maybe after doing something wrong, and the only way he can return home is to become someones guardian angel and save people from dying, much of which is suicide. However, he finds that he cant save anyone even though he tries so hard. Because he cant save anyone, he is surrounded by death, sadness, and pain. All he wants is to save someone to make them happy and see them smile and he can go back home to heaven. |
