| I think it's about someone going through a bad experience such as depression or illness or something and the other person doesn't empathise and understand how it is and thinks they would be able to handle it much better. | |

To me the artist sounds like he is expressing the pain and anger over the loss of a friend or partner who has committed suicide. He is upset that the friend did not trust him enough to go to him with their emotional distress when he could've helped, whereas other friends only stood around and watched the suffering without trying to help. He feels that perhaps the friend didn't trust him because he treated him/ her badly in the past but he is also upset that his friend has never considered that 'maybe' he only treated him/ her badly because he was going through emotional distress himself at that time. My interpretation relates to my own experience with my mother. We did not have a good relationship during my teen years as I was very depressed and acted out and caused a lot of trouble for her. In my early twenties she became depressed and I tried to help her out but she took her own life. |
