| Blue Öyster Cult – Don't Fear The Reaper Lyrics | 11 hours ago |

This is such a comforting and beautiful song about overcoming the fear of death. The author confirmed it was not about suicide, but rather about love transcending death and existence continuing in another form beyond death. The lyrics continually emphasize death as natural, not something to be feared. While not necessarily the author’s intention or religious viewpoint, I view the reaper as God and not a scary, dark being. I think this song depicts the reaper in a similar way — as a spiritual being that gathers people not for evil but for them to go on to a better existence. |

I used to think this song was about a romantic relationship... but now I think it is about a relationship with God... I was confused, you cleared my mind -- God provides clarity and perspective I sold my soul, you bought it back for me -- Referring to the price that Jesus paid for sins You put me high upon a pedestal So high that I could almost see eternity -- Heaven maybe? Eternal life? When I was lost you took me home -- similar to the line from Amazing Grace "was lost, but now I'm found" You gave me hope when I was at the end -- God is hope And turned my lies back into truth again -- Forgiveness of sin You even called me "friend" -- Friend is not a romantic term, but reminds me of the hymn "what a friend we have in Jesus" I am not sure what the original intent of the song was, but there are so many parallels to hymns and it just doesn't seem to fit a romantic relationship |
