The Replacements are on Tour and this song is the one that stayed with me. To me, this is a love song stripped down. There are references to love that might not work out and how love is worth possible heartache - And if it's just a game Then we'll hold hands just the same So what, we're bleeding but we ain't cut or how he might minimize the impending, ultimate heartbreak - And I could purge my soul perhaps For the imminent collapse Then an appeal - raw honesty - of one who is unsure Won't you tell me what I should do? [pursuing a dream left] a rebel without a clue And then, the deepest romantic statement And you be me for awhile You be me for a while And I'll be you Describes the transformative nature of love; seeing things through someone else's eyes. That's my take anyway. I think it is a very deep song. You would only say this to someone that you really cared about and wanted to know a lot better - to walk a mile in their shoes. I'm really looking forward to seeing them in concert. |
