Radiohead – How to Disappear Completely Lyrics 7 years ago
This song despite not being written about depression supposedly, really seems to
summarize the feelings of someone who lives with it daily.

That there
That's not me
I go
Where I please

This first set of lyrics seems to suggest that a change occurred within someone. Maybe so many external things or tragic news hit the speaker's life hard. He changed. He doesn't recognize this person he sees. He's gone. He feel likes a shell of who he used to be.

In a little while
I'll be gone
The moment's already passed
Yeah it's gone
And I'm not here
This isn't happening
I'm not here
I'm not here

I think for me at least the beginning of this section could be reflecting on the fact that he thinks his best times are behind him and may not have much will to live at this point. The "this isn't happening" brings me again to the fact that some tragic news may have hit. Or he can't believe who he sees in a mirror.

Strobe lights and blown speakers
Fireworks and hurricanes
I'm not here

I think this part in regards to depression shows how difficult it can be to overcome it. You're never truly present. You may go out, hear the music and people around you and still be miles away mentally. A hurricane could hit and you might simply lay in bed.

I'm not here- Repeated refers to lost sense of self. Feeling like passive viewer in the circumstancs of your life.

Ultimately, this song is about walking with depression and feeling like you are a ghost or just a fraction of the person you used to be.

Side note- in analyzing this I can also really appreciate those who interpreted this as a testament to DID as well. I'm not sure if this is accidental but the song really is the anthem of those who are different. Even if it's a melancholy one, it's comforting.

Blake Shelton – Goodbye Time Lyrics 8 years ago
Ahh, Conway how you understand me. This song for the party that is always left, aka myself, really hits home. Sorry for the bit of self-deprecation, but if you really feel this song, I feel for you. The first time i heard this I was bawling on the freeway. Anyway, it's pretty straight forward, and if I can remark interesting hearing the song was sung by a male because generally speaking the man is the one who wants his freedom.
Anyway, here's my interpretation...

"Don't all the dreams we've seen come true mean anything
You say it's different now and you keep staring at the door"
The other party doesn't want to fight anymore for their love. She just thinks the grass will be greener away from the narrator. The singer just wants them to work on it, everything they did together is memorable and amazing, and just because things are different or tough doesn't mean he wants to give up.

"If being free's worth what you leave behind
And if it's too late for love to change your mind
Then it's goodbye time"
The narrator realizes no matter how much he loves this person, if they want to go they will go. And in the process he will need to cut them off, goodbye, not see you later, because if her freedom matters more to her than him, he knows he stands.

"If we had known our love would come to this
We could have saved our hearts the hurt of wasted years
Well it's been fun, what else can I say
If the feeling's gone words won't stop you anyway."
The narrator is saying if he had known this would happen, and the other party would so easily walk away, he would've passed on the relationship. But he's still selfless when he uses "we", because he still feels like she shouldn't be in pain either. And my favorite line in the song..."If the feeling's gone words won't stop you anyway." He knows there's nothing he can say to keep her. If she doesn't feel it, doesn't love him, doesn't want to work for it, there's nothing he can do.

"Goodbye baby"
And at the end of the song he says goodbye. Affectionately with "baby", but he knows she just don't care or love him anymore, so he has to leave because he still loves her.

Kaskade – Something, Something Lyrics 8 years ago
I think this song is absolutely beautiful. It's a bit difficult to understand, and that may be intentional because the speaker,or singer if you will, is confused. The beginning is pretty straight forward he is simply stating he knows he wants to be with this person. But, if the other person don't feel the same they need to just let him down now. Let him deal with the heartbreak that comes from loving someone who will never love you back. Then for me it gets a little dicey, and I think this is intentional because this song is a tribute to the whole uncertainty a relationship can bring. The does he or she love me or care, or do they not? It's sort of all meshed together and confusing. You have no soul
It’s a love letter
‘Cause they’re playing
On your heart strings
You’re wishing
I would be well
‘Cause your heartbeat
Something something
I think he may be saying, he feels like they really don't have a soul if they don't hear this song as a love letter that should pull at any human's heart strings. The beats of the song are personified as the "they" in this section. I think the second half of this section implies that the speaker thinks this other person does care, because he or she wants him to be well because their heart beats something something. But he wants to know if that something is for him.
I don’t need you
I just want you
I want you
When you’ll hear this
You’ll know I’m
You’ll know
He's saying he doesn't need this person. We never truly need another person to survive, but that doesn't mean we won't want another. The second half of this is what I love. The speaker wants the other person to fill in the blanks after pouring his heart out. When you hear this you'll know I'm _______. This in turn will make the listener's feelings clear and hopefully they can answer if they feel the same way instead of it being something vague. Overall, the song seems to be a love letter, but one that is now asking the listener if they feel the same, and if not they need to save him pain and let him go.

The Eden Project. – Chasing Ghosts Lyrics 8 years ago
This song holds a special place in my own heart, because I think I am very guilty of what the speaker/singer is experiencing here. They know that they are losing this other person, maybe they never even had this person to begin with. In fact, the person is so far removed from them that they admit he or she is a ghost, but they want to fight for them, to revive the ghost if you will. So their thoughts are still grasping at memories of a person who was once there. The "I Just Want You" is pretty self-explanatory for the amount of times it is repeated, and the haunting tone of the song reflects the idea that the singer's feelings will never be returned. Even when the speaker allows himself to bleed out everything he feels, he draws back in fear "recoil", because he realizes this other person's even remote feelings are dead, or they had none to begin with, and that they feel absolutely nothing in response. This person's love is furthermore unattainable like starlight. So distant and beautiful, but it doesn't belong to him, it would be dead if he held it in his grasp, but looks alive so far away.

This part of the song is probably up to the most interpretation. " Breathe it in It's just snow We're just falling
And we won't always
Free fall back to nothing
'Cause I’m just starting to learn
I’ve always been chasing ghost"
I think it's a memory that the singer has with this person. You know like when you miss someone and you remember little details about some of your favorite moments with them. He remembers how they breathed in the cold air and snow and how everything felt so vivid. "Freefall back to nothing" sounds to me like they held hands and fell upon the snow covered ground. Free fall seems to signifiy it was a choice and everything seemed graceful and that there was trust there. But the "nothing" also signifies that he is snapping back to reality, and that that person is indeed a ghost and that maybe the memory was deceiving. But it doesn't matter, because he will continue to chase this person to no avail, even if he is only chasing their memories. And sure you can and will move on, but ghosts haunt. In all, it's about loving someone who will never love you, and how painfully haunting that experience is. I genuinely hope most of you don't understand this song the way I do every drop in the instrumental and every word sung.

deadmau5 – Careless Lyrics 9 years ago
This song kills me everytime I hear it mainly because of the way I read it. It's a poem to one's self, a sad one at that. The way the song is written repetitively suggests that this is an internal dialogue. The writer is venting his frustrations with himself, but is so upset that he can't or doesn't really desire to change where he is at. It's that breaking point where you give up on trying to understand your feelings or your position in life. He refers to this breaking point when writes, "You knew this day would come, and you did, and you really should have waited". Another interpretation is that these could be words people said to him that he has internalized, and he has let them become a part of his personage. It's likely a combination of self-hatred and words cast upon him by others. When I heard this immediately, I thought, yes, this is far deeper than a breakup. And the background track reflects that as well. It's not vengeful as it may be for an ex. It's simple and melodic, a haunting melody that would be found in someone's head. Our thoughts really determine how we feel about ourselves. "I'll pretend to be happy, and I don't care, You cry yourself to sleep, and I don't care."This is kind of a give away for my interpretation, because this song has so many notes of being disappointed in himself. He gives it away when he says I'll pretend to be happy instead of using "you". He says he will pretend which is what he has been doing while this melody has played over and over in his head. It's a testament to how dark our thoughts can be, and to the demon that is depression.

Thank you for this beautiful song! No one can argue with that

The Pretty Reckless – Heart Lyrics 9 years ago
This song is incredibly painful, but very relatable today to many. I think this song is about a girl who has endured a lot of heartbreak and goes through it once again. The beginning alludes to the fact that she has been through this before. She, "never wanted to feel" "never wanted to show she was weak". Because she has been in that place before, and would rather be numb. And still she can't stay away from this person. So she is "falling all over herself" trying to prove her worth once again to this individual. She's even trying to be the girl this person wants, "Trying to be someone else". But, it's still not enough, for this person doesn't dare get close to her. They keep their distance as they refuse to walk her home. Home being a place where they could really get to know about who she is and what she stands for. She always wanted their heart. But knows, "she never was". In other words, she's not good enough again, and this person is just stringing her along or using her. She knows this, but almost refuses to acknowlege it. So, in a last attempt before she leaves she confesses her feelings even though she already knows they don't feel the same. "Never told you before
Never loved you more". So despite the fact that she knows they could care less about her she loves them and has done everything she could to love them well. At the end, I interpret that she sets off alone as expected. She's "dying to be someone else". As she sees how others don't have to "fight the world alone" as she does. She sees how they are happy and how they know love, something she has only given but never received.

Daughter – Youth Lyrics 9 years ago
To be really brief this song is about the pain that the young people pass through in a journey to grow up. And then we only realize we've reached mature age without accomplishing anything we truly wanted because we always felt there would be more time. We become lifeless and join the mature masses who go about their days as lifeless silhouettes. Even more so, we spend our young days letting go of relationships and opportunities that are meaningful because we always are in search for something better. We only realize at the finish line how many good things we ruined. We turn to alcohol, sex, cigarettes to numb our pain. I think it's also about reminding those who have love and are not jaded how lucky and rare it is to be that way in today's messed up society.

deadmau5 – I Remember (with Kaskade feat. Haley Gibby) Lyrics 10 years ago
"Feeling the past moving in
Letting a new day begin
Hold to the time that you know
You don't have to move on to let go"

First off the speaker ( I use she to refer to the speaker just for simplicity) is talking about the past. I interpreted this part as the speaker is telling herself that you can move on from the past. I took the " past" here as a place where forgiveness should have taken place. But instead she or they gave up, thinking they could let go and replace what they had easily. She is warning others to not make the same mistake, let go, and make new memories.
Now my grounds for saying this is that the song is pretty much immortalizing her feelings for this person. That's why I don't see it to be about moving on. The following lyrics reaffirm that idea:

" Add to the memory you keep
Remember when you fall asleep
Hold to the love that you know
You don't have to give up to let go"

In other words, don't give up when things get difficult. Let go of what's causing the conflict. And the fall asleep part would then be a play on "not going to bed mad". Adding to the memories suggests that new memories can be made if you don't give up.

"Remember turning on the the night
And moving through the morning light
Remember how it was with you
Remember how you pulled me through
I remember "

I took this as they were up all night doing "things" without going into detail. They couldn't get enough of each other basically, which is why they were still 'moving through the morning light.' Now she remembers all of that, and realizes how much he helped her through, maybe even realizes how much he means to her.
But it's too late for both of them.
Maybe he feels the same, we'll never know though, because all were left with is her echoing words of
"I remember
I remember
I remember"
at the end of the song. Which to me, suggests quite some time has passed. And that she and maybe he will always remember because what they had is too strong to forget. It's basically about the darker side of love the connections that don't end in happy endings but haunt us.

Zedd – Find You Lyrics 10 years ago
For me, this song is about love that never got a chance to grow. For some reason two people were pulled apart right at the critical moment where they almost used those words. It could be an exterior force, like a job or distance. But, the word echo, resonates with regret. There's this longing for this other person. And the song, especially the first few lines,is hoping to evoke the memories of the other person, since it may have been a while since they spent time together. Maybe, they didn't realize how much they cared for this other person until they were gone. And now they regret that they never told them the truth or let the love grow, and would do anything to find them. And then there's a blind sense of hope grounded in faith that they will be re-united. And the song is inviting the other party to "put your love in lights" so they can find them. They can runaway with them and create the love they missed the first time around. This song can be interpreted so many ways. That's just the way I see it. It's very sweet, and very optimistic concerning feelings of love lasting, and opportunities for second chances.
