In this, the anonymous warrior has decided to leave his wife and seek glorious death in battle, which angered his wife enough to loose an arrow at him. She was already no longer his goddess, but a nightmare, and now when he flees her influence she decides if she cannot have him, no one can. |

Based on their comments in interviews, and other things, I must say that the Mare is likely the anonymous warrior's wife, who is possessive and aggressive, making love making all about her, not about him. While she had been his goddess, now she has become a nightmare, riding him to exhaustion as the original Mara of legend does. |

This is the start of the whole Valkyrja album, and actually takes place at the end of the story, as the warrior is the one who died alone. |

This song seems to be about an aging warrior blessed by seeing a Valkyrie while still alive, who has never died or failed since. In the context of the album as a whole, it dits into the main narrative. |

This song is referring to the forced conversion of the Faroes in the year 999 when they came under control of Olaf I Tryggvason, king of Norway. It also mentions his killing of Eirik Bloodaxe's last son (Eirik was the son of Jarl Haakon, whose death let Olaf take power in Norway, and the last of Haakon's line dying prevented others with a strong claim). |
