Disney – Colors of the Wind (Pocahontas) Lyrics 10 years ago
@[LilyBear:4422] Sorry to burst your bubble but that letter you are referring to was actually written by a white man named Ted Perry for a film script. It is still a fantastic speech none the less and I think you have a point there are a number of things that are said in that letter that are reminiscent to the lyrics of this song. There was a Chief Seattle and he did write a letter however it was nothing like the one you are referring to, in fact in it he stated his belief that "the red mans God" is not the same as the "white mans God" and that they could not coexist together, just like day cannot exist with night. He goes on to talk about his great sadness of the demise of his people and that although he does not want war he fully understands the younger generation of his people being frustrated and angry. It ends with an ultimatum Paraphrased he says he will ponder the offer but if you trick/betray him and his people there will be consequences. Message me and I can send you the links if you wish.

Where did you do your research? Pocahontas was captured by the English in hopes that she could be ransomed for English hostages captured by her father Chief Powhatan. She never saw a prison but lived with a Vicar and his wife where she converted to Christianity.
After been given the chance to return home to her own people she refused wanting to stay with the English. She fell in love with an Englishman named John Rolfe she was baptised and changed her name to Rebecca and then married with her father Chief Powhatan's blessing. They had a child together and moved to England where she was a bit of a celebrity.

Unfortunately she died (it is thought to have been from Tuberculosis) in her early twenties and is buried at St Georges Gravesend in Kent England.

There is nothing "sick" about the film whatsoever, The only thing that's nonsense is the romance between herself and John Smith.

The native Americans have far more to be annoyed about then a Disney Cartoon.
The song is fantastic.

Iron Maiden – Judas Be My Guide Lyrics 10 years ago
Hi Everyone, I realise it's been awhile since anyone has commented on this song but I just wanted to add my thoughts.

In Catholicism we have saints, as does the Protestant faith but both sides view them differently. Catholics and Protestants both view saints as people to aspire to be like, however in the Catholic faith they pray for intercession from saints, for example a mother might pray to St Michael (Patron saint of Soldiers) to watch over her son. I think in the Protestant faith they don't pray to them they just look at them as people whom you should aspire to be like.

As most Iron Maiden fan know religion inspires quite a few of their songs.
There is a Saint Jude (Sometimes referred to as St Judas) he is known as the patron saint of lost causes, He wrote a letter telling early Christians to persevere through their hardships and to not give up hence where he got the name of lost causes.

There is also another reason he is known as the patron saint of lost causes because he is the last person you pray for intercession from for fear you dial up the wrong Judas and get the betrayer of Christ instead.

"The cult of Saint Jude all but died out after the Middle Ages because people confused him with Judas Iscariot, the apostle who betrayed Christ. Despite being cited as a great influence by the mystics Saint Bernard of Clairvaux and Saint Bridget of Sweden, Jude was rarely invoked by the faithful for anything. It is said that because of this, he became the saint to call on in the most impossible of situations. So anxious was he to be of help, he would turn heaven and earth to rectify a desperate situation."

As I see it the Narrator/Bruce is at his wits end, he sees how the world never changes that people do cruel and inhumane things and have been doing it for centuries. He mentions how everything is for sale, how nothing is sacred and also war. The nothing is sacred is most likely referencing life and how easily it is discarded, how people are disposed of in war and for greed.

Is that all there is?
Can I go now

He has given up he wants out of this world for he sees no way out, no change. As a last resort he turns to Jude also known as Judas, not to be confused with Judas Iscariot who betrayed Christ.

I live in the black
I have no guiding light
I'm whispering in your dreams

He is completely lost and has no hope or can see no light at the end of the tunnel, I'm whispering in your dreams I see it as he is praying to him for guidance. He then continues to repeat

Judas my guide
Whispers in the night
Judas my guide

Which I see it again that he is praying, whispers at night again most people would pray before they go to sleep.

Sorry for the length of my interpretation , I love some of the other interpretations that I've read especially LordOfLight, AFI_FAN24 and Aqarius.

Take care.
