Rage Against the Machine – Sleep Now In The Fire Lyrics 10 years ago
@[menace13:1901] I would say it is about America in general. They are known for their political views that are pretty much always anti government. Not to mention that they seem to list a lot of the more negative things the government has done. If you look at the chorus it is all negative things that have happened in the past starting with coming to american in general. The Nina the pita and the Santa Maria are the ships that brought Columbus to north America, the noose and the rapist seems to me to be a reference to the way that the Indians were dealt with( the women were raped, and they made them do the death marches which would be the noose), the fields overseer is a reference to slavery, the agents of orange is a reference to the chemical warfare used in Viet Nam. The priests of Hiroshima would be the innocent people who were killed when we bombed Hiroshima. The world is my expense the cost of my desire sounds like it means that they don't care who gets hurt so long as they get what they want. Jesus blessed me with his future sounds like imminent domain ( the idea that is was their god given right to take the land from the Indians) and I protect it with fire meaning that they killed those who disagree with them or threatened their ideals.
