Relistening to this brilliant album all these years later... I take Kill Rhythm's lyrics as the rumination of someone who, over the course of the past five dark years, has become consumed ("really think this rhythm is the only one") with committing a murder. |

This song absolutely is about electroshock therapy, and in particular as administered to a teenage contemporary of a younger Bono. And as others note, it is couched in anger and hurt. As with the rest of this album, it conveys a deep sense of search for understanding and self-purpose.
Every time I revisit this album I am stunned by how good it is. U2 has had an impressive career, but I'm not sure they've ever done anything that measures up to Boy. |
