I believe this is about his love for another that he obviously can't and never will have. I can relate to this song. When I was a freshman in high school I fell hard for the senior captain of the hockey team. All of my friends told me that it would never happen since he was a senior and I was just a freshman. I can relate to their reality checks during the lyrics "told me boy look the other way" and "told me boy bite your tongue". These were the things people told me whenever I mentioned him. They always reminded me that it would never happen. And the way I interpreted "that's just not the way that friends behave" is something different from what others may have thought. From my experience, most of the reality checks came from my friend who happened to be a freshman on the hockey team. He always got bitter when I brought the senior up and was always quick to prove me wrong about the older boy. Later, I found out that my friend had a crush on me. As far as the chorus goes, I always think of the fact that I would see him everyday on my way to certain classes. I'd even brush past him a few times. It was crazy how much I foolishly cared for him and how he would never know that. That was the way it remained for the rest of the year. Every now and again we'd make eye contact for a brief moment but that was the extent of our association. He graduated in the spring and to this day I have never seen him since. |

When I first heard this song I knew that death is a very large aspect in the piece. This song is quite unique and rather depressing but it's also quite thought provoking and beautiful. The song was very well put together and the lyrics seem very well thought through as if each of the words are carefully placed. The first time I read over the lyrics and began to imagine a father holding his new born daughter, sound asleep in his arms. I imagined him thinking about have different things would be now. He looks at her and wonders how life growing up for her will be. After reading through a few of the other interpretations I realized that I hadn't even thought about the idea that this song could also be about depression. As I read through the lyrics a second time I pictured oblivion as a cloud or a hooded figure. I'm not quite sure how to explain it,but I saw it as a figure, human or object, as something that was constant. Something that has, is, and always will be there. The third time I read the lyrics I saw a teenage boy with a rough life. Drugs, crime, all that stuff. I pictured him questioning himself and his future and he realizes that he always takes things too far and eventually stops following the path he was taking when he sees where it will take him. I hope this opens your mind up to a few new ideas and thoughts on this song. I really adore this musical piece and it's definitely one of my favorites. |

| I'm not entirely sure of this song but it's very pretty. I'm guessing that this song is about a girl who had a crush on a boy but it didn't work. It wasn't a very major thing because they were too young to have something very serious but their time still meant something. This may be when she's trying to get over him. She knows that they were too young to love and that they just threw that word around but it did mean something. Then she wonders if someday she will be happy and be 'something more' in the future. This is when she feels terrible after the split and feels stupid and worthless. He may have lied to her a few times and she's saying that you don't lie the way he did. Another point is that she is willing to let him keep her heart in hopes that someday he will hope that they will get back together. She's willing to wait for him until everything turns to ashes and there's nothing left. This is just my interpretation and I don't even know if it's right but...can an interpretation be right or wrong? I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion. | |

Incredible song. It's honestly one of my favorites that he's sung. I think he's trying to get across the idea of sometimes at the beginning of a relationship, things are good and nice and happy but after awhile the fire begins to dim and it's not 'good' or meaningful anymore. Or it could mean that things we think are good may not actually be that great. Like things that are coated in happiness and lies(like being a singer or actor) when in reality it's stressful and scary. |

| I don't fully understand this song but I think it's quite beautiful. From what I can pull from the lyrics, I see that a man is reflecting back on his troubled teenage years. | |

This song is ripping on the youth of the 90s. 'Entertain me' 'oh well, whatever, never mind' the way that the teens would all sit around and do drugs and wouldn't care and looks for entertainment and parties. It's making fun of the kids that were screwed up. And trying to get them to make a change. |

| Ed Sheeran – Tenerife Sea Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Who cares if it's about someone. It could be about Taylor, Ellie, some chick off the street, or no one in particular but this song if filled with so much meaning. As Ed always does, he pours his heart and soul out into this piece. I believe it's about two lovers in the world today who are having a secret moment. I know he says 'Beth' at the end but no one has heard of anyone close to him named Beth so that leaves a lot of confusion but I think he meant for people to be confused. I mean, the song says 'you've got that kind of look in your eyes as if no one knows anything but us' that's probably how him and this 'Beth' chick feel. I'm just saying I think this song is a sweet love song and he decided to incorporate that name maybe because of a girl he can't get his mind off of or maybe he just thought it was a pretty name. | |

I agree that this song is a love song. It is quite a beautiful one at that, but I think the singer is trying to convey the message that the said character is telling his lover that he would do anything for them. If loves a fight, then I shall die, with my heart on the trigger.-basically saying that said person would die for the other because of how much they love them. They say before you start a war, you better know what you're fighting for/well baby, you are all that I adore. If love is what you need, a soldier I will be.-saying that said person know exactly what he's fighting for. He's fighting for the other's love. I'm an angel with a shot gun-they have a good reputation, but they're willing to let that go for the person they love. I don't care if heaven won't take me back./Throw away my faith, babe, just to keep you safe.-this is a deep statement considering that they are basically saying that they'd give up God and all that they stand for to earn this person's love. Overall, this is a beautiful song with deep statements and obviously the writer was feeling strong emotions while constructing this piece. |
