| @[ENKI:1591] and actually now that I read it again, the part ''Or starve in my place at the table,'' actually seems to me like he means to say he will not get bored with a settled life if he is able.. | |

(I'll marry my lover in a place to admire I don't have to even ask her I can look in her eyes And thank God that I am forgiven I thank all my friends To say I've been truer or they forgotten) ***I felt this verse expressed the basic ideals of unconditional love. Friends who, when your feeling low, will remind you of a better time in your life or who can help you forget a worse one, a lover who stood strong through pain and heartbreak and yet kept no record of wrongs, and a man who faced these truths and found the fragile balance between forgiving himself and remaining humble before his higher power and his true love. (Weary my mind is to say the least It's been awful hard to just stand on my feet I think I'll slow down if I am able I won't drown in the ocean Or starve in my place at the table) *** I felt this verse was a sort of confession. To me I felt his reference to the ocean may have been referring to his being promiscuous and unfaithful to his true love. He is expressing how much of a load is on his mind from the pain he has caused to her and to himself by his careless behavior. He is expressing that the shame makes it hard for him to stand on his own but if he can, he will slow down and make the changes before he 'drowns in the ocean' hence causes irreparable damage to his relationship with his true love to where she cannot forgive him, or 'starve in his place at the table,' meaning be so far gone with guilt that he suffers to take his place at a family table with his love even if she continues to forgive him. (Lucky ones are we all til it is over Everyone near and far When you smile the sun it peaks through the clouds Never die for always be around and around and around) *** I felt this was just a way of expressing his gratefulness for choosing to change his outlook on life from hopeless and careless to hopeful and caring. Also a compliment to the power his lover has to shed light on the gloomy outlook he once had and his desire for her to continue the beautiful notion. (How is your sister and what of your brother Extend hellos to your father and mother What in the world would cause you any sorrow Lighten your load And see how I keeled the wheel barrow I borrowed) I felt this expresses his reentry back into faithful commitment. He wants to actively be part of his loves life and hear about her family and talk about her problems, perhaps be the one who is there for her again. He is also expressing guilt for perhaps leaving her on her own with such a heavy load, himself being the wheelbarrow which he not only took borrowed, took away to later give back, but also keeled, tipped, over on his own. |
