Dredg – Ode to the Sun Lyrics 11 years ago
The car crash seems to be a metaphor for something tragic that happened and the person may be terminal if not dead already.
"My heart, I owe you my soul
will ya please accept this offer (it's over)
this is all for you
transcend"
Whoever this person is this song is for them, he's offering his heart to them in gratitude, and this whole song is a kind of a "well done, mission accomplished, now die so you can graduate from this hell you're in". ("It's over, this is all for you, transcend/die/go to heaven")
Now here's the trippy part to me:
"rubberneck
passing motorists
a mangled tuna-can-car rests
repair this tattered skin
hold it in your hand"
Again using an accident as a metaphor, he's asking someone (maybe the person whose dying) to heal either themselves or him. In a way it kinda sounds like he may be refering to Jesus Christ, the Son/Sun of man. The line that get's me though is:
"you've already glistened through the window
you've already set us all free"
When you read different lyrics from different artists, try to pay attention to the similar words and symbols they use. In this case we have "window" which is a kind of slang for eye(s) (windows to the soul). To me this tells me somebody let their light shine through their eyes, showing all their love, their soul, at the risk of being exposed and vulnerable. And in doing so brought out the light in the eyes of others, pulling them from their darkness that they once hid in to feel safe and setting them free. If you've ever seen someone's soul pouring out through their eyes, it can be overwhelmingly intimate and personal. But maybe that's what this person did, they risked being vulnerable to show that it's ok to feel everything fully. In fact in my experience, it is the only way to truley connect with each other and the outside world, and maybe if everyone did that, it would be a better place. Anyway, that's my take so far.

@[eastoneaston:1354] I think that's a good take on it.
