I will be more specific. She is married with children. "The world she has grown" is around a husband and children. The children are too vulnerable to a marriage break-up so she must be alone in her relationship for a "few more years". The author respects that and will wait and be alone himself until that point. She used to be all fun and vibrant but the bad marriage has supressed and destroyed her "young self with-in". Who she would want to be care free and be the "girl she loved" when she had self esteem. The darkness of the dawn seems to be a reference to depression. As soon as the sun comes up there is only enveloping darkness. Sadness. While they are apart? But he has made himself alone as much as she is alone in empathy or as a statement like shaving your hair to support a friend with cancer. Her friends are gone and won't come cause of the ass-hole she is with. A dominant ,pig type? "Don't let the hurdle fall" is a reference to the difficulty of her keeping the marriage together for the kids. "So show me where you fit" I don't know. My theory breaks down. Could it be where she fits in society. It would be easy to have just one more broken marriage in the world but to be unselfish for the kids is an ultimate sacrifice and she fits on a pedestal as a hero. I'm struggling here but it can work for me. Her strength is her self sacrifice and survival. "Ignore everybody else" saying "you should stay" or "you should go" or other suitors saying "you should be with me." He wants her to stay in the relationship and wait for him as he will wait for her. A sad song, an ultimate love song. That is why it is sung that way and why Lorde did it the same way. |

| This song may echo with anyone who has had an affair with an older married lover. The created life is the complicated false life with someone you don't love and the friend network that supports. The older woman needs to be strong and alone and wait for that relationship dust to settle before they can be together especially if its in the public eye. Lorde "like a version" cover of this song is haunting and has a few lyric changes to suit a female. Why she chose this song ang sings it with such passion tells me something has gone on with an older coupled man. | |
